Innovation Journey to Design a Data-Driven Organization

The CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls) function of an international pharmaceutical company sought to pave the way for R&D’s digital transformation, aiming to future-proof operations, increase efficiency, and enhance patient-centric drug development. Success relied on building a strong foundation of high-quality data management.

Implementation

OXYGY partnered with the client to lead a core team through an innovation journey toward a data-driven future. The process began with workshops mapping the current (“as-is”) state of data use, examining how data was generated, shared, and stored across the organization. From there, we worked together to define the ideal future (“to-be”) state, designing an optimal data journey and identifying key “data personas” – archetypes representing different types of data users. By mapping these personas, we pinpointed critical interaction points and developed a clear manifesto for becoming a truly data-driven organization. The final phase focused on defining the necessary capabilities and workstreams to support the transformation, with a thorough review ensuring alignment across all stakeholders. This collaborative effort empowered the client with a unified vision, guiding them on their journey to becoming a data-centric powerhouse and industry leader.

Achievements

The innovation journey successfully unified all key stakeholders around a clear, shared vision for the future of a data-driven organization. With a well-defined strategy and strong senior-level sponsorship, the company is now equipped to embark on its digital transformation with clarity and focus. The identification of critical capabilities and detailed workstreams provides a concrete, actionable roadmap, ensuring the transformation is both effective and sustainable. With this solid foundation, the organization is now well-positioned to lead in the rapidly evolving pharmaceutical landscape.
