Paradigm Shift in IT System Development

Challenges and tasks

  • The IT group of the global pharmaceutical company had implemented new IT systems that were a technical success but an organizational failure (due to the lack of business involvement).
  • The need was to develop a new IT system development methodology to ensure business value creation, deploying a holistic approach with shared business and IT ownership.

OXYGY's Approaches

  • We supported a cross functional client team to simplify the current system development approach and augmented this with proven practices to increase value creation.
  • Through integrated system design and business process re-engineering, we created and rolled-out a highly interactive and role-specific training curriculum for more than 1000 business and IT user, supported by a web-based resource center.

Outcomes and value created

Implementing the new methodology across the whole organization led to major paradigm shifts:

  • from IT systems to business processes,
  • from system requirements to customer needs, and
  • from user training to driving behavioral change.

The new approach is now the company-wide standard, resulting in technical and organizational successes for technology implementations today and in the future.
